Last sunday Amanda and I went downtown to have a fika with our friend Jonas. My baseball cap wasn't keeping me warm, so I decided to buy a new winter hat. Instead of getting just a new black tuque, the kind of hat I've always worn through the winters, I thought I'd get something a little more.. fun!
After having done some research I believe this kind of hat is called an "ushanka". An ushanka à la H&M.

Fjärde och näst sista uppgiften i arbetsproverna! Man skulle skapa en kampanj för Angeredsgymnasiet i Göteborg. Det som ska särskilja skolan får andra gymnasier är att man har "passioner" på schemat, dvs det finns möjlighet att utöva ett ganska stort urval intressen på skoltid (ett slags mellanting av individuellt val och ett profilprogram är min uppfattning av det hela), och utövandet av PBL, problembaserat lärande.

Uppgift nummer tre gick ut på att skapa en kampanj för Familjeapoteket.se. Kampanjen skulle bestå av en helsidesannons i kvällspress, en gerillaaktivitet och en valfri mediakanal. Min kampanjidé går ut på att Familjeapoteket.se kommer genom sina billiga priser konkurrera ut vanlig apoteket och på så sätt göra en massa apotekare arbetslösa. Läs förklaringarna i bilderna ovan så tror jag ni förstår min idé, haha.

The third assignment was to create a campaign for the online pharmacy Familjeapoteket.se. The campaign was supposed contain a full page ad in a newspaper, some type of geurilla marketing and the usage a media channel of your own choice. My idea for the campaign was for the full page ad to say that "This pharmacist will lose his job... but you will be saving money", implying that Familjeapoteket.se's good prices will put ordinary pharmacies out of business. The guerilla marketing would consist of people dressed up as pharmacists protesting against Familjeapoteket and their good prices, urging bystanders to boycott the company and help the poor pharmacist s keep their jobs. These "pharmacists" would have QR-codes on their white coats that when scanned with a cellphone would let the bystander download a game. In this game you're a pharmacists trying to find a new job and collecting pill bottles for extra points. Playing the game gives you the chance to win a exclusive first aid kit from Familjeapoteket.se.

I tisdags skickade jag iväg mina arbetsprover till Reklam och Marknadsföring på Yrkeshögskolan Göteborg. Första uppgiften gick ut på att skapa en ny logotyp till Intersport och sedan applicera denna på en hangtag, en vattenflaska och en jympapåse.

Idag släppte Green Label Sound (Mountain Dews skivbolag) en singel av Star Slinger med ett omslag gjort av mig! Det är en otroligt skön låt och det säger jag inte för att jag gjort omslaget, Darren (Star Slinger) kan sin sak när det kommer till beats.
Jag fick göra ett flertal olika förslag omslag innan det slutligen blev denna version. Kommer att ladda upp några av de tidigare förslagen så småningom.

Sova Magazine

Köpte för några månader sedan första utgåvan av Sova Magazine och blev så inspirerad att jag bara inte kunde låta bli att skapa något att skicka in till nästa nummer. Första numret hade just temat "sova", men detta nummer hade ett betydligt mörkare tema, nämligen "angst".
Resultat blev en diptyk bestående av kollage med porträtt jag tagit av Amanda och Atli. Och de kom med minsann, som omslag till en minitidning/folder som följde med! Jag skapade dock inte den fina typografin, utan den står tidningens skapare, Martin Petersen, för. Måste säga att jag är ännu mer imponerad av detta nummers utformning och design. I bought the first issue of Sova Magazine a few months ago and was so inspired I decided to make something for the next issue. The first issue had the theme "Sleep" (sova = sleep in swedish) and this issue's theme is "Angst".
I created a diptych that I sent in and it got featured as the cover for a little booklet thing! I did not make that pretty typography though, the creator of the magazine, Martin Petersen, did that.
I have to say I'm even more impressed with this issue and Martin's meticulous work. So much attention to detail. I also love all the extra little things that came with the magazine. Click here to see some "behind the scenes" footage.

The Couch Surfer

Filuren här ovan är jänkaren Austin, en man med oerhört bra musiksmak som vanligtvis studerar på NYU. Han har den senaste tiden åkt genom Europa på väg ner till Italien där han ska vara kocklärling under hösten. Austin addade mig på Facebook i samma veva som rapparen Emay rekryterade mig till ett nytt projekt de startat upp. Så jag hade aldrig kommunicerat med killen när han berättade att han hade vägarna förbi Sverige och undrade om jag hade lust om mötas upp. Först blev jag lite osäker, men sedan tänkte what the hell, det kan bli roligt! Visst, killen kan ju visa sig vara en galen seriemördare, men han kan lika gärna vara världens trevligaste. Och världens trevligaste var han minsann!
Söndag kväll för två veckor sen tog jag och Amanda bussen till centralen för att möta honom. Kommunikationen fram tills dess hade varit lite krånglig eftersom han inte hade något svensk mobilabonnemang. Och jag visste inte heller riktigt hur han såg ut. Men i rulltrappan ner till spåren såg jag en snubbe på rulltrappan mitt emot på väg upp och visst var det han!
Vi åkte hem till lägenheten, drack lite té, pratade och såg på en absurd japansk film vid namn "House" (Hausu). Dagen därpå var Amanda ledig så vi åkte ut och utforskade stan. När vi väl kom hem tillagade Austin lite Hawaiisk "poki".
Dagen därpå var jag tvungen att påbörja min distanskurs, så Austin fick utforska vidare på egen hand. Men när han kom tillbaks introducerade Amanda och jag honom för raggmunkar och lingonsylt. Onsdag morgon var det dags för honom att åka vidare till Köpenhamn och resten av Europa, men jag är väldigt säker på att vi kommer träffa honom någon gång igen!

The person above is Austin. Austin is a pretty cool dude from DC, with an awesome taste in music, who's going to be a cook's apprentice in Italy this fall. In August he wrote to me on Facebook and told me he was in a couple of weeks going to make his way down through Europe, passing by Sweden amongst other countries. So he wondered if I'd like to meet up. Now Austin added me on Facebook because I'd beeen recruited to a project of his through rapper Emay, so we'd never talked before. But what the hey, I thought for myself, it could be fun! He could've of course be a psycho killer, but he could just as well be a really cool person.
So Sunday two weeks ago Amanda and I took the bus to the train station and med the guy. Turned out he was a incredibly nice dude alright! We went back to our apartment drank some tea and watched some whacked-out Japanese movie Amanda had found called "House" (Hausu). The next day we checked out Malmö and went out to Amandas school. When we got back Austin made us some Hawaiian poki.
Tuesday Austin went exporing the town on his own while I begun my distance course and Amanda was in school. Once everybody was back, Amanda and I introduced him to the (very swedish?) dish raggmunkar with lingonberry jam. Wednesday morning it was time for Austin to take the train to Copenhagen and the rest of Europe, but I'm quite sure will see him again sometime!

Our New Home

För ca fyra veckor sedan flyttade jag och Mandis ner till Malmö! Amanda går Grafisk design på Östra Grevie folkhögskola och jag läser ett 60-poängs distansprogram i webbdesign.
Vi hade väldig tur med lägenhet, erbjudandet fick vi bara en och en halv - två veckor efter att vi lagt ut annonsen. Vi åkte ner och tog en titt på lägenheten och det var inte så mycket att tveka över. Det tar i och för sig tjugo-tjugofem minuter med buss att ta sig in till centrum, men what the hey! Det är en stor billig etta, så jag är nöjd!
Ovan: Vårt kök. Vårt brevinkast. Vår spis och ugn från sextiotalet. Grejer vi hängt upp på väggarna. Och viktigast av allt: Fikodilen! Vår sparbössa för fikapengar!

Amanda and I moved to Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden, about four weeks ago. She's now is studying graphic design at Östra Grevie Folk Highschool and I'm studying web design over the interwebz!
We were really lucky with the apartment, it only took us about one and half or two weeks until we got the offer. Sure, it takes about twenty-twentyfive minutes to get down by bus, but it's a nice calm neighborhood and a pretty big apartment for such a low rent.

I've finally finished my summer courses! And on monday the distance course I'm taking this coming year starts, it's a one year course in web design. It's really kind of a temporary thing though, I'm hoping I'll get into a school a advertising school that (oddly enough) starts in january next year. Anyhow, I've got a free week now so I thought I'd get busy with jobs and the redesign of my website and blog. Above is some illustration I started working on some month ago but never completed, finished it quickly before I went to bed last night.

Helsinki, My Love

Went on a school trip to Helsinki in May. I had pretty low expectations at first, mostly because we were going over by ferry, but it turned out being a great trip! I have to admit I kind of fell a lil' bit in love with the city. Especially after visiting that Karl Fazer café. Oh, my non-existent lord, that was probably the best café I've ever been too.
We also saw some great exhibitions; the history of Marimekko at the Design Museum, contemporary african art at Kiasma and Laura Laine and Claire Aho at Taidehalli. We also must've visited like fifteen design stores. Helsinki is after all the World Design Capital next year!

The website was supposed to contain a startpage with a "surprise" animation happening if you don't leave the page within the first ten seconds or so, a gallery and a short animation telling the history of the product or company.

För en vecka sedan flyttade jag från Tidaholm och Hellidens Folkhögskola. Utan att överdriva så har dessa nio månader på Helliden varit bland de bästa i mitt liv. Jag har nog aldrig trivts så bra och känt mig så välkommen och uppskattad som på denna skola. En tid jag helt klart alltid kommer att minnas. Vart framtiden bär hän härefter, det får vi se. (Kanske Malmö.)

Följde en guide i Computer Arts som beskrev hur man skapar ett sömlöst mönster. Gjorde nog något fel, för sömlöst blev det inte, vilket man kan se om man skulle upprepa bilden här ovan. Men nästan. Så det är väl bara att ge det ett nytt försök så småninom. I vilket fall blev jag nöjd med de illustrationer jag skapade till mönstret.

Followed a tutorial in Computer Arts explaining how to do a pattern rapport, a seamless pattern. Must've done something wrong because it's not totally seamless if you repeat it, but almost. I'm quite pleased with the illustrations I made for it though.

Anything Made In a Haste Is a Disgrace

Vi har ett pågående skolprojekt som går ut på att göra ett skivomslag baserat på en genre vi fått utlottad. Tanken är att en klasskamrat ska vara musikern vars album omslaget är till. Det blev per automatik så att jag och min kära Amandis fick göra omslag till varandra, eftersom vi alltid sitter tillsammans, haha. Jag genren shoegaze (som jag gissar att vår klasskamrat Anders (<- Klicka för att ta en titt på hans fina blogg) bidrog med till utlottningen) och Amanda fick den genre jag hade bidragit med; den något nya och ganska diffusa subgenren "post-dubstep", hehe!
Inspirerad av persiennljus tog jag en kartongskiva och började skära ut vågiga mönster. Höll sedan denna skiva framför Amandisen i solljuset från ett fönster och fotade Amanda och de ljusmönster som föll på hennes ansikte. Lite bearbetning i Photoshop plus typografi och voilá! Har även skrivit ut omslaget och ska snart montera det på en sjutummare jag köpt på second hand.

One of two current assignments in school right now is to make an album cover based on a random genre. I got "shoegaze" as genre and we're supposed to make an album cover for a fictional musician portrayed by a classmate, in this case my beloved Amanda! (And she in her turn will make an album cover with me on it. She got my genre submission, "post-dubstep", haha.)
I was really inspired by photos with sunlight coming in through blinds, so I started cutting wavy patterns in a piece of cardboard and later used this to display light patterns on Amanda's face. Thereafter I worked with colors and textures in Photoshop and added some typography and it all turned out pretty good! The next step is to make a dummy of the record sleeve using a old George Michael 7" vinyl I bought at a thrift store.

Teams vs. Star Slinger On Vinyl!

Äntligen har jag fått ett exemplar av Teams vs. Star Slinger på vinyl! Det känns lite konstigt att för första gången se något man gjort tryckt på ett vinylomslag, haha. Färgerna ser i alla fall riktigt bra ut och detsamma gäller upplösningen, vilket gör mig väldigt glad.
Precis som med alla andra släpp på Mexican Summer så har dock skivan skivbolagets egna standardetiketter påklistrade, vilket är lite synd eftersom jag gjorde några som matchade omslaget. Oh well.
För er som inte känner till Star Slinger eller Teams sedan innan så är detta en EP de två jobbat på tillsammans. Genremässigt är det instrumentalhiphop (med en touch av fransk house emellanåt) uppbyggt av gamla brusiga soul- och R&B-samplingar. Jag fick höra EP:n i mitten av november förra året, innan den släppts, och jag har fortfarande inte tröttna på den. Pretty dope stuff? Oh yes.

I finally got a copy of the Teams vs. Star Slinger on vinyl! Feels so weird to see my artwork printed on a vinyl cover, haha. The colors and resolution turned out great, which makes me very happy. To bad they didn't use the vinyl labels I made, but oh well!
For those of you haven't heard Star Slinger or Teams before I can tell you this is a collaborative instrumental hip hop EP built on delicious old soul and R&B samples.
Been listening to it since November and I still haven't grown tired of it. Pretty dope stuff.

Alice In Wonderland

En av uppgifterna i ansökan till Grafisk design på Östra Grevie Folkhögskola är att göra en affisch till Tim Burtons "Alice I Underlandet". Blev så fascinerad av den scen i filmen när Alice faller ner i hålet till Underlandet, att jag bestämde mig för att basera min affisch på den. Målade och tecknade i tusch på akvarellpapper först, därefter skannade jag in den och tillsatte lite färg, textur, rörelseoskärpa och typografi. Meeeeen, i slutändan så bestämde jag mig för att inte söka till Östra Grevie. Två år av folkis får räcka!

Made this poster for a school application. One of the application assignments was to make a poster for Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland" movie. I was fascinated by the scene in the film were Alice falls down the rabbit hole, so I decided to base my poster on that particular scene. First I drew and painted it with india ink, then I scanned it and added color, texture, motion blur and tyopgraphy. In the end I decided not to apply to this school, though.

Star Slinger // Yaki-Da

Last friday Amanda and I traveled to Gothenburg to see Darren, aka Star Slinger, play at this club called Yaki-Da. Amanda was sick and I was starting to develop a cold but we forced ourselves on to that bus and train to Gothenburg and it turned out being so worth it. Darren's liveset was SUPER DOPE and Amanda and I were dancing and singing along to all the samples. Amanda also brought along her camera and took some great photos, I edited three of them with my halftone pattern technique, like I've been doing a lot lately.

We're having photography class three times this week. Finished the assignment that's supposed to be finished on friday in one day, today that is. It's a paraphrase of a photo by my favorite photographer, Gregory Crewdson.

Amanda and I have finally finished working on this music video. Well, it's actually been lying around finished for a while, we just realized the other day that we didn't have to do anymore work on it. Anyhow, we both worked on the initial concept and idea, then during recording I let Amanda take the part as the director. Amanda was also behind the camera while I worked on and with the visuals which we projected onto Rebecka, our classmate and the actress in the video, with a video projector. The most fun part of this was the live drawing with my wacom, which you'll see mostly in the second half of the video.

Star Slinger is going places. Metaphorically speaking. And literally since this dude is going on a US tour with Baths, which is incredibly dope. I've had the pleasure to make a lot of commissioned artwork for Darren (aka Star Slinger), but this last one, above, I made on my own initiative. It's based on a photo by Tonje Thilesen.

I really despised mainstream contemporary R&B there for a while. Even though I kind of grew up hearing and liking a lot of '90s R&B. And I probably wouldn't have loved hip hop as much as I do if it wasn't for growing up with that. Or "neo-soul" for that matter.

Six months ago or so I started listening to '80s R&B. Probably thanks to the whole "chillwave"-thing and Onra's latest album, Long Distance. Started loving bands like Loose Ends and SOS Band. After a while I started getting hooked on '90s R&B like R Kelly and Aaliyah. At first it was probably mostly out of nostalgic reasons. But somewhere along the way I really started loving it for real. And then summer came and for some reason I started listening to The-Dream. Now we're talking late '00s R&B. Fell almost instantly in love with the guys amazing production. And his falsetto... oh my god. I even love the auto-tuning. And then I gave that Drake album a shot. Damn. Hooked. And then just a few weeks ago something I never though would happen, happened. I liked Trey Songz latest album. WTF.

Above are four wallpapers i made for my computer. First we have Trey Songz, then dirty south (another genre I never thought I would start loving) rapper Slim Thug, R Kelly and rapper Freddie Gibbs. One might think these wallpapers are ironic, but I assure you they are not. Except for the R Kelly one...

Once, when I was in the eight grade, a classmate was fooling around and trying to doodle all over my school papers. When trying to keep the papers away from him he accidentally stabbed me right below my nose with his pencil. And since then I've had a small dark spot there which over the years have come to fade a bit. the scar doesn't bug me as much nowadays as it used to, but sometimes it still does.
